First of all finickiness is a learned behavior and not an inborn one. If food tastes good and is nutritional cats will generally eat it. Surprisingly cat owners teach their cats to be finicky. If you find yourself opening several cans at every meal and following your cat around the house, trying to coax her to have a nibble, you’ve got a serious finicky problem going. At the next meal, put down a food you know the cat has eaten before. Wait 20 minutes, and then pick up the food and do not give any other food, snacks, or treats until the next meal. Repeat the process at that meal and every subsequent meal. Your cat may meow and meow to no end but statistics show that sticking to your guns for just a few days, without any type of intervention can improve cat behaviors. Another tactic that can drastically improve cat behaviors, as far as being finicky is concerned is to sprinkle some tuna bits and water on rejected food. Most cats will then eat it, If cat goes without eating for more than a few days, possibly look into other reasons for strange cat behaviors, maybe even consider taking the cat to a vet, there may be other underlying problems causing the cat’s poor appetite. Remember that domestic cats generally have several reasons for not feeding, 1. Illness, 2. they may just be bored with the flavor, it happens, hence the tactic above with the tuna, 3. Appetites normally decrease in the summer months anyway. You must also remember that when adding tuna bits to help entice cat to feed, not to use too much tuna and not to do this tactic too often. Too much too often may altogether change the cat’s preference’s toward the tuna instead of the regular cat food. Below are a great selection of Automatic Feeders which can save you time, and having to remember to feed your pet several times a day every day. You simply set them and forget them, your pet is fed at whatever preset time you set at the dose you prescribe. What To Do With A Finicky Cat!
